On March 20, 2025, we hosted the third Youth Placemaking Balkans (YPB) workshop at Sport Hall Trešnjevka. The session focused on how young athletes can contribute to creating safer and more inclusive public sports spaces.

Key Themes Covered:

✔️ Understanding Placemaking – How urban spaces influence community well-being.
✔️ Youth Empowerment & Inclusion – The role of young people in improving their surroundings.
✔️ Community Space Co-Creation – Methods for engaging in urban planning.
✔️ Skill & Competence Building – Learning actionable strategies for improving sports spaces.

Case Studies Presented:

🎨 Ofarbaj POkaz (Karlovac, Osijek, Pula) – A youth-led mural project revitalizing neglected spaces.
🌍 UPGRADE – Towards a Sustainable Spatial Infrastructure (Zagreb) – An initiative focused on sustainability in urban revitalization.

Challenges & Insights from Participants:

🚧 Lack of safe, well-lit, and female-friendly public sports facilities.
💡 Ideas included renovating outdoor courts, creating safe running paths, and adding community training zones.

Ensuring a Sustainable Impact:

📌 Participants received links to online resources, research materials, and Erasmus+ opportunities to continue learning.
📌 The discussion highlighted the importance of small changes that can have a big impact on community sports spaces.

This workshop reinforced the need for youth-driven urban planning and the importance of giving young female athletes a voice in shaping their environment.
