The 1st Youth Placemaking Balkans (YPB) Workshop brought together people with intellectual disabilities (PwID), their caregivers, family members, and experts to explore how everyone can play a role in shaping public spaces.
The workshop was designed to be inclusive, interactive, and engaging, using discussion and support from experts working with PwID to make placemaking concepts easy to understand. Participants learned about how urban spaces can be more welcoming and accessible and shared ideas on how to improve their communities.
Through inspiring case studies like Ofarbaj POkaz (a youth-led mural project) and UPGRADE (a sustainability-focused urban initiative), participants saw how small actions can make a big difference. They also worked in teams to visualize improvements for local public spaces, focusing on safety, accessibility, and creativity.
The event was a beautiful reminder that everyone deserves a voice in creating better communities. With the support of caregivers, family members, and experts, PwID had the opportunity to express their ideas, build confidence, and feel empowered to contribute to their surroundings.
We are proud to support inclusive placemaking and look forward to seeing these ideas come to life! 💙🏙️
